ROCKS

Rocks are made up of minerals. They form the solid part of the Earth.

We use rocks for many different things:

In construction: Granite is used to make walls. Clay is used to make bricks. Slate is used to make roof tiles.

As fuel: Petroleum and coal burn well and give off heat.

In industry: Petroleum is transformed into plastics or paint.

For decoration: Marble is used to make statues and ornaments.

A telephone contains over 40 different mineral materials.
Mineral water may contain minerals such as calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, magnesium, copper and manganese.
