MUNICIPALITIES


The smallest administrative division in Spain is called a municipality. A municipality consists of one or more cities, towns or villages, governed by a local council.

The head of the local council is the mayor. The mayor and the councilors work in the Town Hall. 


The local council organizes MUNICIPAL SERVICES. These include:
  • Health care services, such as hospitals and health centres.

  • Environmental services, such as street lighting, street cleaning and looking after parks and gardens.

  • Police and fire services.

  • Cultural and leisure services, such as libraries and sports centres.

  • Town planning services repair and maintain our roads and organize public transport.

  • Education services, such as schools and universities.
