AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITIES

In Spain there are seventeen Autonomous Communities. Fifteen are on the Iberian Peninsula. The other two are the archipelagos of the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.

Each Autonomous Community has its own history and traditions. They all have their own capital city and government.

Spain has two Autonomous Cities on the coast of North Africa: Ceuta and Melilla.
